It turns out that Nelson Mandela, the leader of the African National Congress (ANC), was really a Communist party member after all. Recent research reveals that Mandela actually held senior rank in the South African Communist Party (SACP).
“[M]ost people who supported the anti-apartheid movement just didn’t want to know that much about his [Mandela’s] background. Apartheid was seen as a moral issue and that was that. But if real proof had been produced at the time, some might have thought differently.”—Stephen Ellis, Free University of Amsterdam professor, former Amnesty International researcher
And who can forget Mandela’s former wife Winnie and her necklace method of execution, a barbaric practice in which a gasoline-filled rubber tire is forced around the victim’s arms and chest and ignited? The brutal, sadistic practice became a trademark of the ANC.
“Together, hand in hand, with that stick of matches, with our necklace, we shall liberate this country.”—Winnie Mandela
