The denominations that make up Christendom are full of unregenerate and reprobate enemies of truth who profess belief in Jesus Christ. They sow confusion by mixing lies with Christian doctrine to undermine and discredit the truth of God’s written word.

The Corinthian church in Paul’s day had false teachers who had blended a quasi gospel with Jewish legalism and pagan mysticism. They taught acceptance, and they worked to unite the people of God with idolatrous worshipers and the truth of Scripture with the practices and rituals of paganism.

When Paul found out what was being taught, he called for believers to separate themselves from unbelievers.

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord” 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 KJV

Paul understood that it’s impossible for believers and unbelievers to work together to produce anything that’s spiritually beneficial.

The Lord commanded the Israelites, “Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass togetherDeuteronomy 22:10 KJV. Both animals have different natures, gaits, and strengths. When unequally yoked, it’s impossible for them to plow together effectively.

Partnering with unbelievers muddies the doctrinal waters and cripples the ability to preach Paul’s Gospel and the full counsel of God in Scripture.

Undiscerning believers who partner in a common spiritual cause with unbiblical forms of Christianity or other false religions have opened the door wide to satanic corruption. The appearance of unity, no matter how enticing, is not worth sacrificing Scriptural truth and Gospel clarity.

Jesus told His disciples, “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of menMatthew 5:13 KJV.

The primary issue with Christ is the salt, not society. It’s the salt that keeps society from putrefying. “When nations are to perish in their sins, ’tis in the Church the leprosy begins.”

Christendom’s denominations have become apostate. They falsely reassure their flocks that all is well between them and God, when in truth they are headed for eternal damnation.

When the foundations of the Christian faith are under attack, Christians must contend for the faith, not compromise Scriptural truth for the sake of ecumenical unity. Christians are called to “obey God rather than men”Acts 5:29 KJV.

It may be polite and pleasant to tone down teachings and soften messages, but neither Christ nor the apostles built collegial relationships with false teachers; in fact, Scripture forbids it, see Romans 16:17, 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 2 Timothy 3:5 KJV.

Christ warned that He will spue a lukewarm church out of His mouth. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 KJV.

Praise God for Christians who will open the door to Christ, confront Satan’s unscriptural nonsense, earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints, and not shrink back in declaring the whole counsel of God.

Some unregenerate Christians insist on the importance of having a personal relationship with Christ. They seem to forget that Judas had a personal relationship with Christ.

The example of Judas teaches that one may be a disciple of Christ, a worker of miracles, a doer of good deeds, and an evangelist, but still be an unbeliever and go to Hell.

Until he betrayed Christ, to all the disciples, Judas led the sort of life that the faith-plus-works (Lordship salvation) teachers say distinguishes a true believer from a false believer.

“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” Romans 4:4-8 KJV

Members on the rolls of local churches belong to what theologians have called since the 4th century the visible church. Augustine loosely defined it as a mixed body of wheat and tares, as described by Jesus. People who respond to an outward call of the Gospel join visible church communities for their teaching, guidance, and fellowship.

The visible church can been seen and experienced, so its existence is readily apparent and not in dispute. However, an invisible universal church isn’t readily apparent to everyone. In fact some visible church members say an invisible church is pure nonsense, and they don’t believe it exists.

People who don’t believe in an invisible church know little to nothing about the Scripture, the Protestant Reformation, or the classic Protestant distinction between the visible and invisible church.

The distinction does not mean that the Lord Jesus has two separate churches. Scripture teaches there is one bride, one body, and one church of regenerated, born-again believers. The terms “invisible” and “visible” are used to draw distinctions between the two groups in the universal church.

All born-again Christians are members of the invisible church, but not all professing Christians are members of the invisible church even though they are members of the visible church.

The visible churches can’t save unregenerate sinners from God’s condemnation and judgment, and their sacraments and rituals can’t give life to unregenerate sinners who are spiritually dead and alienated from God.

Only Jesus Christ can save sinners from judgment, and only the Holy Spirit can give life to spiritually dead sinners.

The clearest description explaining the Scriptural doctrine of the invisible and visible church was penned in the mid seventeenth century by the Westminster divines in Chapter XXV of The Westminster Confession of Faith.  

Of the Church:

I. The catholic or universal Church, which is invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ the Head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fulness of Him that fills all in all.[1]

II. The visible Church, which is also catholic or universal under the Gospel (not confined to one nation, as before under the law), consists of all those throughout the world that profess the true religion;[2] and of their children:[3] and is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ,[4] the house and family of God,[5] out of which there is no ordinary possibility of salvation.[6]

III. Unto this catholic visible Church Christ has given the ministry, oracles, and ordinances of God, for the gathering and perfecting of the saints, in this life, to the end of the world: and does, by his own presence and Spirit, according to his promise, make them effectual thereunto.[7]

IV. This catholic Church has been sometimes more, sometimes less visible.[8] And particular Churches, which are members thereof, are more or less pure, according as the doctrine of the Gospel is taught and embraced, ordinances administered, and public worship performed more or less purely in them.[9]

V. The purest Churches under heaven are subject both to mixture and error;[10] and some have so degenerated, as to become no Churches of Christ, but synagogues of Satan.[11] Nevertheless, there shall be always a Church on earth to worship God according to his will.[12]

VI. There is no other head of the Church but the Lord Jesus Christ.[13] Nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself, in the Church, against Christ and all that is called God.[14]

[1] EPH 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him. 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. COL 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

The Gospel

The Gospel is the good news about the person and work of Jesus Christ, the second Adam. In the whole stream of human history there are only two men who have universal significance – Adam and Jesus Christ. Adam was not merely the biological father of the race; he was the legal representative of the whole human race. He acted for all. His sin involved all: “by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners…” (Romans 5:19). 

Consequently, the whole stream of human history has been corrupted by human sinfulness, and all stand under the judgment of the law. None of that history can satisfy the demand of holiness, for even the lives of the best saints fall far short of the glory of God. Into this sinful stream of human history, God sent forth his Son to be our “everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6), our second Adam, our new representative. His name was Immanuel – God with us.” 

In Jesus Christ we see God with us in poverty and humiliation, God with us in trial and sorrow, and finally, God with us in suffering and death. More than that, Jesus was “God…for us” (Romans 8:31). What he did in all his glorious acts of goodness was done for his people. It was done in our name and on our behalf, for he was our representative who acted for us before the bar of eternal justice. By his sinless life he fulfilled the precepts of the law for us, and by his death he satisfied the penalty of the law for us. On our behalf he strove with sin and annihilated its power. 

In his human nature he engaged the devil in hand-to-hand combat and destroyed his power. He tasted death and abolished it, “…having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And he has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:14, 15). 

All that Christ did is imputed to his people through faith. His victory is ours. So the apostle says, “By the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life” (Romans 5:18). 

There are three things we must say about this good news of Jesus Christ: 

1. The Gospel is about an historical event. It is about Jesus Christ coming into the world and not about Jesus Christ coming into our hearts. It is historically objective. 

Christianity is the only truly historical religion. It alone proclaims a salvation based on a concrete outside-of-me event. 

Of course, the Gospel has subjective benefits. It has effects and fruits in the hearts of all who believe it. But in the Gospel itself there is not one subjective element. It happened completely outside of you and me. 

The Gospel brings to view a new holy history – the thirty-three years which Jesus Christ lived on Earth. In the death of Jesus Christ, God rejected and punished our sinful history; and having buried it with Jesus Christ, he brought forth that new history. Now he proclaims to us that he accepts us as righteous solely on the basis that he has accepted his Son and our representative, Jesus Christ. 

The Gospel is the good news that the saving deeds have taken place, the redemptive transaction has been sealed by Christ’s blood and attested to by his resurrection from the dead. God’s liberating act has been carried out, and believers are cleansed, accepted, and restored in the person of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is historical. 

2. The Gospel is about a unique history. There is no other event, and can be no other event, like the Christ event. His holy history is unique. In the whole stream of human history, Christ alone is without sin. We must never compromise the unique sinlessness of Jesus Christ. Only one is absolutely righteous in reality and fact. 

The saints can be absolutely righteous only by the merciful reckoning of Christ’s righteousness by faith alone. No one but Christ, the slain Lamb, is able to open the book and look therein (Revelation 5:1-5). 

3. The Gospel is about an unrepeatable history. This is the great emphasis given by the writer of Hebrews. The offering of Christ was once and for all: 

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till his enemies are made his footstool. For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:10-14) 

We are never called upon to initiate another redemptive event. Nothing needs to be added to what Christ has already done. Nothing can be added to it. God himself cannot add to it. We say it reverently but decidedly: This is one thing that God could not do again – the giving of and offering of his Son, Jesus Christ. 

Paul tells us that with him God gave us “all things” (Romans 8:32). To suggest that God could do this again is to imply that God did not really give everything the first time. But he emptied all Heaven in one gift. He poured out all the accumulated love of eternity. He kept nothing back, but gave all he had to give. The Gospel is unrepeatable history. 

This unique, unrepeatable event, this holy history of Jesus Christ, is the focal point of Biblical proclamation. These mighty deeds of the incarnate Son, this awesome, effective act of atonement, is the one great pre-occupation of the apostolic message. 

Gospel preaching is the constant exposition of this historical Gospel and the unfolding of its significance for men and women everywhere. All who believe are justified, not on the grounds of their faith, but on the grounds of the saving acts of God already done once and for all in Jesus Christ.

“that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures [emphasis mine]; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures [emphasis mine]” I Corinthians 15: 3,4

Christians can be divided into two groups. Many or most belong to the self-identified Christian group, and some or a few belong to the elect Christian group. Self-identified Christians believe that a person must exercise “free will” for salvation. They believe that God wants everybody to be saved, but it’s up to the individual to either accept or reject God’s offer of salvation. God foreknows those who will respond and accept His offer of salvation, but He doesn’t predetermine who will accept salvation and who won’t.  Because people have been given the freedom to choose, God must adjust His plans accordingly based on people’s responses.

Conversely, elect Christians believe that man’s will is not free but it’s God who freely chooses who will be saved and who won’t be saved. They believe that God chose those whom He would save, i.e., the elect, before He created the world. He foreknows those whom He will save because He knew them and planned to save them before He created the world.

Both self-identified and elect Christians cite Scripture to support their theological positions on free will and election, and the vast majority of Christian denominations today preach and teach that salvation depends upon free will, and not election.

Calvinism and Arminianism Are Irreconcilable Theological Positions Regarding Salvation through Jesus Christ

Never believed in god, but trust me, i want to be able to but i just can’t.

You are so right, Jasey. None of us can believe God unless God gives us life and the faith to believe in Him. We all are born with a sinful nature and spiritually dead in our trespasses and sins. I will pray that God bestows grace and mercy to you and awakens you to the truth of Christ Jesus.

Jasey, the same way you learn about math, sports, video games or zombies (lol) is to study and immerse yourself into whatever it is you desire to know or be better at…it’s the same with God, you can’t truly know Him if you don’t seek Him out and read His Word – The Bible. God is right there in front of you, holding the most amazing gift you will ever own, but if you don’t reach out and accept the gift, and bring it home, and open it up, and hold it, you will never have or know this gift. There is historical proof that Jesus existed, but you just need to read His Word to know Him. Isiah 53 was written 700 years before Jesus, yet it describes Jesus crucifixion (years before crucifixion was even used) God proves himself over and over in The Bible, but you have to read and study it to understand what it means for you. Find a really good church that can come along side you, and help you to understand God’s love for you, dig into God’s Word and accept the best gift you’ll ever receive.

Jesey: What has been presented to you are Protestantism’s doctrines of salvation known as Calvinism (my position) and Arminianism (Debie’s position).

In Calvinism, God chooses men for salvation, and He chose those who are and will be saved (the elect) before He created the world. He foreknows those who will accept His salvation because He knew them and planned their salvation before the world began.

In Arminianism, man’s “free will” determines salvation. It is God’s will for all men to be saved, but men decide whether they will accept or reject God’s offer of salvation. God’s foreknowledge is based entirely on man’s response. God didn’t predetermine everything before He created the world; He adjusts his plans accordingly based on man’s responses.

Christians cite Scripture to support both theological positions, but the vast majority of Protestant denominations today preach and teach Arminianism.

Although an argument can be made for both positions from Scripture, only one position can be true for they are mutually exclusive.
