Police say 64-year-old Edward Schaefer was walking to the bus stop to meet his wife shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday when six black and Hispanic males, between 16 and 18 years old, attacked him from behind.
“Schaefer’s face was beaten into the ground and then rubbed across the concrete in Philadelphia’s Olney’s neighborhood.”—KWY-TV
Donald Jones saw Schaefer fall and came across the street to help. If wasn’t for Jones, police say the teens would have beaten Schaefer to death. Schaefer, who lost an eye in combat while serving his country in Vietnam, suffered a fractured skull, broken bones in his face, and severe injuries to his hand from the assault.
