Following his 2006 verbal misstep, “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts [in Delaware] unless you have a slight Indian accent,” Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. decided enough time had passed to offer his two cents worth on why Indian women wear that dot on their forehead.

“I always thought that the dot worn by Indian women on their forehead had something to do with their religion or tradition, but I was told the real story by an employee at the Indian embassy in DC.

You see, Hindu woman have dowries when they get married. And on their wedding night, the man scratches off the dot to see whether his dowry contains a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop, a taxi cab, or a motel in the United States. If nothing’s behind the dot, he remains in India where he answers telephones to provide technical advice for Verizon and Microsoft customers.”
