Tea Party favorite Allen West (R-FL) and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) crossed party lines and voted with Democrats to keep funding Pigford claims, which USDA Employee John Stringfellow called, “the largest scam against the federal taxpayers in the history of the United States.”
“Concerned Black Farmers of Tennessee … found that 63 percent of those that were approved [for Pigford claims] had no records to establish that they had ever even farmed. Yet, each of those individuals received a check from the USDA for $50,000.”
Jimmy Dismuke, black farmer and Pigford whistleblower, said that he knew people who received Pigford money who had no connection to farming at all.
“People with potted plants in their apartments claimed to be farmers and got paid.”
Both West and Issa have some serious splainin’ to do.
