In responding to a question from North Carolina Congresswomen Sue Myrick, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper described Egypt’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood as a largely secular movement “which has eschewed violence … decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam [and] pursued social ends, a betterment of the political order in Egypt.”

Even NBC News’ foreign correspondent Richard Engel was taken aback by Clapper’s description of the Brotherhood in Egypt, calling it a “head snap moment.”

In real-world Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood is known for assassinating Anwar Sadat and for being the ideological forebear of Hamas and al-Qaida. The Brotherhood is the hovering mother ship for worldwide Islamofascism and terrorism. Its slogan is “Islam is the answer”; its agenda is to establish Sharia law throughout the world; and its goal is to unify Muslim countries to create a worldwide Caliphate.
