Freedom of speech and association and the free flow of ideas and information have always threatened tyrants.  To rule, they must control speech.

“There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.”—Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV):

That little bug must have also been bothering Rockefeller during last year’s confirmation hearing of Gary Locke for Commerce Secretary when he asked, “would it have been better if we had never invented the Internet?”

Rockefeller’s bug brings to mind the 1983 film Terms of Endearment and the exchange between Garrett Breedlove, played by Jack Nicholson, and Aurora Greenway, played by Shirley Maclaine:

Garrett Breedlove:  You’re just going to have to trust me about this one thing. You need a lot of drinks.

Aurora Greenway:  To break the ice?

Garrett Breedlove:  To kill the bug that you have up your ass.

Of course if the pride of West Virginia is too busy rulin’ and regulatin’ to visit a local pub, perhaps a constituent ought to give him a swig or two from the white lightning jug to do the trick.
