Although most Americans have ignored the injustices their government has committed against ten of America’s warriors who are currently incarcerated at the military prison in Leavenworth, Kansas, Allen West, the Republican candidate for Congress in Florida’s 22nd District, continues the fight to free the Iraq war’s forgotten soldiers.
A retired Army lieutenant colonel and veteran of Desert Storm and the Iraq war, West knows first-hand the restrictive, legalistic rules of engagement that tie the hands of American soldiers while enemy combatants are free to disregard and break all rules.
According to West, “something is upside-down about this military legal system,” and he suggests the way to correct “the convoluted rules of engagement” and “Ivy League, think-tank” policies is to send representatives to Washington who have battlefield experience.
Brother O and his Bread and Circuses administration have granted clemency and freedom to hundreds of Iraqi and Afghan combatants including those who have killed American troops, but they lack mercy and forgiveness for the men who answered the call to defend the United States against her enemies.
Instead of campaigning this weekend in his Florida district, West traveled to Kansas to speak at the Leavenworth Ten Freedom Ride and participate in a parade in front of the prison to draw attention to the plight of the ten American warriors.
“Going to Congress doesn’t mean so much to me as doing something to help these young men.”—Allen West
