A Louisiana lawyer stood in the back of boat during a thunderstorm, and with arms raised to the heavens proclaimed, ”Here I am!” Moments later a bolt of lightning struck N. Graves Thomas in the head killing him instantly.
Thomas, a former state prosecutor and assistant U.S. attorney, had garnered a reputation as a firebrand and maverick, whose clients included cop killers, mob figures, white-collar criminals, and drug smugglers. At the time of the incident, Thomas was representing a man accused of recklessness in a boating accident that killed three people on the lake.
Idle proclamations can have dire consequences.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7)
