Yahoo! News reports that Schubert & Hoey Outdoor Advertising is the company that owns and leases space on the billboard. But as for who rented the space, Mary McNamara, the general manager from the company’s Minneapolis office, said it is a group of small business owners (some are Obama supporters) who wish to remain anonymous.
According to McNamara, the group hoped to convey the message, “Hope and change, where is it?” McNamara said the ad has been up for about a month and that she hasn’t received any negative comments about it; in fact, some people have offered to donate money to keep it up.
The group’s motivation for taking out the ad remains debatable. Area Democrats argue that the group is being sarcastic, reminding voters how bad things were under Bush. Rational people, however, argue that the group is pointing out how truly awful everything has become under Brother O’s Bread and Circuses administration by reminding voters that it wasn’t nearly this bad under the previous Bush administration.
Cindy Erickson, the chairwoman of the Democratic Party in Chisago County, where the billboard is located, said, “I don’t have any idea who did it, but my thought was that they’re Tea Party people.”
Even if Erickson’s hunch proves correct, who’s behind the ad doesn’t negate the effectiveness of its question, “How’s that hopey-changey thing working out for ya?”
