“Our view is that … [Romney's position] is a different position than this administration holds. It’s the view of this administration that the capital should be determined in final status negotiations between parties.”—Josh Earnest, White House spokesman
One day after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney came out and said Jerusalem is the capital of Israel forcing the administration’s hand, Obama signals the Muslim world that his administration will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel when the Palestinians do.
During the press briefing last Thursday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tried to blow off the question about whether or not Obama recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by insisting that the reporter who had asked the question already knew Obama’s position and that his position had not changed.
BTW, for those keeping track of Obama lies, add this one from 2008:
“[A]ny agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.”—Barack Obama
