Girl Brain-Dead from Taser Incident

In the :48 video below, 267-pound Trooper Daniel Cole tases a 100 pound, 20-year-old handcuffed girl in the back as she tries to flee. Danielle Maudsley suffered severe brain damage from the September 2011 taser incident and has been in a vegetative state ever since.
Cole arrested Maudsley for allegedly leaving the scene of two traffic accidents and driving with a suspended license. He took her to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) substation and was completing paperwork before taking her to the Pinellas County Jail when she bolted out the door in handcuffs.
Cole chased her out into a parking lot and fired his taser into her back. Maudsley spun around and fell backwards, her head slamming down hard against the concrete pavement. Maudsley cried and tried to get up and about two minutes later lost consciousness. She has remained unconscious ever since.

According to a report by the Office of Inspector General Investigation Unit, Maudsley was found to have cocaine and oxycodone in her system at the time.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted an independent review of the incident and determined Cole’s actions “were legal and within the scope of his duties” and cleared him of wrongdoing.
Maudsley’s defense attorney said that Cole’s use of the taser violated FHP policy.
“Fleeing cannot be the sole reason for the deployment. When you shoot someone in the back, and they’re running away, all that force — as you saw when Danielle’s head hit the concrete — that’s why they don’t allow you to do that, because you can have horrible tragedies like this.”—Kevin Haylsett
In the report Cole said that he used the taser because he “felt she was more susceptible to being injured if he attempted to tackle her.”
Doctors told Cheryl Maudsley that her daughter will likely remain in a vegetative state. Maudsley is currently at the Ft. Lauderdale rehab center.

Sad outcome…and I feel bad for her parents. However our children learn by example and sometimes the apple does not fall far from the tree. Your child is a career criminal and a Drug addict. We as a society are too fast to place blame on others who had no control over this person’s ultimate destiny. She chose to break the law, she chose to run in handcuffs. You blame the officer for not placing pillows on the ground to break her fall. Leaving the scene of two traffic accidents and driving with a suspended license. Maudsley was found to have cocaine and oxycodone in her system at the time. Escaping from Police Custody, now a fleeing Felon…I’m guessing Mom would have sued if she tripped on a curb and hit her head. Mom and Dad need to look in the mirror for the fault as to why their child ended up where she did. Time to Move on….Sometimes life is cruel…but stop blaming others for your Childs mistakes.

Brian, you’re really an idiot. If this was your daughter, God forbid you breed, you’d feel differently. That was excessive force. He should have taken two steps and grabbed her. She was not a danger to him. He did not need to use such force. Shoot a person in the back? Cowardly. Maybe he should spend a little more time keeping his body in shape and he could have taken the two extra steps to catch her. Maybe he should have handcuffed her to the chair she was in. There is no good reason to kill someone that isn’t a threat to you. It would be different if she was threatening harm on him or someone else at the time she was tased. Get real.

Read if you are concerned about excess force and the rising number of deaths by stun guns. i came across the news story yesterday stating the officer in this case was found to have acted “legally”. i freaked out when i saw the video. its awful and it’s such a travesty. the punishment she ultimately got doesn’t fit the crime. i won’t be the same. i hope we can get some type of mandate or control over these things to keep the number of deaths from rising.
If this were a guy, it wouldn’t have made the news. I feel bad for the police officer. I don’t know why anyone would be a cop given the civil dangers involved. When you run from a law enforcement officer, they have the option to taze you. Should women be immune to apprehension? Absolutely not. She was a coked up skank with a criminal record. She got what she deserved. Wake up girls. Equality is what it is. Don’t do the crime if you can’t handle reality. That goes for the guys as well.

This girl apparently felt terribly threatened by this man in a rush to get away! He may have tried to rape her or threaten to rape her… She looked like a girl under attack from some kind of advance! The officer could have simply waited as she was handcuffed and would have to stop sooner or later! Also this guy looked like he visits to many Doughnut shops! To lazy to chase after her..? Tazer’s are nothing short of Torture! Now she’s brain dead ! If this society stands by and does nothing about this, we are in big trouble in this country!
