Vince Cefalu, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) who blew the whistle on the agency for allowing thousands of guns purchased in the United States to get into Mexico and into the possession of drug gangs has been fired.
“Simply put, we knowingly let hundreds of guns and dozens of identified bad guys go across the border.”—Vince Cefalu
A couple of days before Cefalu was fired, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, warned ATF officials not to retaliate against whistleblowers.
“I think it’s obvious why they’re doing this. It was my willingness to expose [Project Gunrunner] and support other people to come forward.”—Vince Cefalu
Cefalu has worked at ATF for 24 years and can appeal the firing.
Whistleblower laws are prosecuted by Eric Holder’s Justice Department. Oh well, that’s that.
