On Election Day 2008, King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson of the New Black Panther party stood in front of a Philadelphia polling station dressed in military-style garb, yelling racial slurs, as one waved a billy club. Party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz confirmed that the Panthers’ deployment was part of a nationwide effort to place members at polling locations on Election Day.

The Philadelphia voter intimidation case against the Panthers was dropped by Eric Holder’s Justice Department, only Shabazz was found guilty of voter intimidation, and was ordered to stay away from city polling places until 2012. Holder’s Justice Department decided to administer a slap-on-the-wrist punishment and drop the charges rather than enforce the Voting Rights Act; i.e., protect the abusers instead of the voters. NARRATOR: The New Panthers firmly believe that as long as the races mix, blacks and whites will never achieve equality. They believe that blacks are the original people, and see themselves and the kings and queens of the world.
